The OTA Trader Archetypes

Patterns we recognize in ourselves — and the wounds that created them.

Most of us come to OTA because we can't stop overtrading. But understanding why we can't stop — which wound is driving the pattern — is where real recovery begins.

Below five trader archetypes developed through our founder's "The Healing Trade" framework. You may recognize yourself in one — or several. You are not your archetype. It's not a label. It's an invitation to look deeper.

Archetype 01 — The Panic Seller Good things don't last — so I leave before I can be left.

Exits trades too early. Moves stops prematurely, or stops are too tight. Can't hold a winning trade. Feels relief when out — even at a loss.

The Panic Seller learned early that good things disappear. That safety is temporary. That if something feels good, it's probably about to end. The market becomes a place where that old belief plays out — over and over — until the trader starts doing the work to heal the wound.

Healing Invitation: You are allowed to stay. Good things are allowed to last. This trade set-up is not going to disappear. ▶ Watch: The Panic Seller on YouTube

Archetype 02 — The Revenge Trader A loss means I'm not enough — and I have to fix it right now.

Will automatically re-enter trades immediately after a loss. Many times will Increase size and leverage after a loss. Trades more when down on the day. Chases the market to make losses back.

The Revenge Trader isn't fighting the market — they're fighting a much older wound — shame that was placed on them long before they ever became a trader.

Healing Invitation: A loss is not a verdict on your worth. You are allowed to be wrong and still be whole. ▶ Watch: The Revenge Trader on YouTube

Archetype 03 — The Freezer Mistakes were dangerous — so stillness became survival.

Watches perfect setups form and when they are ready can't pull the trigger. Can have analysis paralysis. Misses entries repeatedly. Has deep regret and/or FOMO after every missed trade.

The Freezer learned that mistakes had real consequences. Sometimes really harmful. And the body remembers that — even now in a safe environment, the freeze response fires first.

Healing Invitation: You are no longer in the room where action meant danger. Your stop is your protection. You are safe enough to move.

Archetype 04 — The Overrider Rules were made by people who didn't care about me — so I stopped following them.

Moves stop losses. Takes trades without doing due diligence. Stays past targets without taking partial profit. Breaks their word to themselves repeatedly. Finds the loophole in their own trading plan.

Defiance and being the "rebel" became survival. Now it shows up at the trading desk dressed as confidence.

Healing Invitation: Your plan was written by you. Following it isn't submission — it's sovereignty. The most powerful thing you can do is keep your own word.

Archetype 05 — The Euphoric Overtrader

I'm not addicted to the money — I'm addicted to the feeling of being alive.

Has to constantly be in a trade even after big wins. Is very uncomfortable when not in a trade. Ignores targets and stops on streaks. (We are not talking about keeping a "runner" here. It's more like "Let it all ride" and staying all in.) Feels invincible. Gives back profits chasing the high.

The Euphoric Overtrader isn't chasing profit — they're chasing the feeling of being extraordinary. The market became the most potent source of that feeling available.

Healing Invitation: You are allowed to feel extraordinary without one more trade to prove it. The aliveness you're chasing already lives inside you.
